1993-Batch Officers Alok Mittal and Dr. Ashindra Singh Chawla Await CM’s Approval
The top tier of the Haryana Police is set to expand, with two senior IPS officers from the 1993 batch — Alok Mittal and Dr. Ashindra Singh Chawla — in line for elevation to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP).
The Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) has already endorsed their promotions. The file will next be routed through the Home Secretary to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who will take the final call on the appointments.
Once the Chief Minister grants approval, both officers will formally join the select circle of officers serving at the DGP rank in the state.
Haryana’s DGP-Rank Strength to Rise to Seven
Currently, the state has five DGP-level officers:
Mohammad Akol
Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor
Sanjeev Kumar
O.P. Singh
Ajay Singhal
With the induction of Mittal and Chawla, Haryana will have a total of seven DGP-rank officials, bolstering its senior police leadership at a time when law enforcement capacity and administrative efficiency remain crucial governance priorities.
Promotions in Line with National Pattern
Across India, most IPS officers of the 1993 batch have already reached the DGP level. Haryana’s decision now brings it in step with this national trend, ensuring parity within the cadre.
Officials familiar with the process note that the elevations not only acknowledge the officers’ seniority but also their long-standing professional service and contributions to policing and public safety.
