In a pioneering move to uplift the standard of education in government schools, the Haryana government has launched a unique initiative involving IAS, IPS, and HCS officers as mentors for students preparing for competitive exams. The program, announced by Education Minister Kanwar Pal on Monday, aims to bridge the gap between aspiration and access by offering direct guidance from experienced civil servants.
Officers to Visit Schools Monthly
Under this initiative, officers posted across Haryana’s districts will visit four government schools each month, dedicating one day per school to interact with students. These sessions will focus not only on academic coaching but also on career counseling, competitive exam preparation, and life skills such as traffic rules and civic responsibilities.
The Education Department has already issued formal instructions to all district-level officers, requesting their cooperation in ensuring the program’s smooth rollout.
“No External Interference”: Education Minister
Addressing reporters, Minister Kanwar Pal emphasized the government’s commitment to transparent administration. He categorically stated that no external pressure or interference, including from relatives of officials, would be tolerated in the functioning of the Directorate of Education.
Emphasis on Academic Excellence and Infrastructure
Highlighting recent achievements, the Minister noted that Haryana’s government schools have made significant strides. This year’s Class X and XII board results under the Haryana School Education Board were highly encouraging.
The state has also taken a lead in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, developing customized courses to better equip students for modern challenges. “The NEP-aligned curriculum will deliver long-term dividends in the form of employable skills and holistic education,” Kanwar Pal added.
Success of Super 100 & Boosting Girl Education
The minister also praised the success of the ‘Super 100’ program, which supports students from economically weaker backgrounds in preparing for engineering entrance exams. This year, 72 students from government schools qualified for the JEE Advanced, including 24 girls, underscoring the state’s focus on girls’ empowerment through education.
Syllabus Reform and Rural Infrastructure
To promote entrepreneurship and job readiness, the syllabus for Classes 10 to 12 is being updated to include practical and vocational skills. Parallelly, the government is working with gram panchayats to improve sanitation and infrastructure in rural schools during the summer break.
Boosting Enrollment Through Community Engagement
In an effort to increase student enrollment in government schools, teachers are conducting door-to-door awareness campaigns, with strong support from local panchayats. “Our goal is to make government schools the preferred choice for parents and students alike,” the minister affirmed.
This initiative represents yet another step in Haryana’s ambitious mission to transform public education and nurture future-ready citizens by involving the state’s most experienced and accomplished officers in student development.
