Currently Secretary of Sports and Youth Welfare, the 2007-batch officer takes on dual responsibility following ECI directive
The Chhattisgarh government has entrusted IAS Yashwant Kumar with the additional charge of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) for the state. A 2007-batch IAS officer Kumar’s appointment follows a directive from the Election Commission of India (ECI), New Delhi.
Kumar will continue to serve in his existing post as Secretary, Sports and Youth Welfare Department, alongside his new election-related responsibilities.
In a related development, IAS Himanshu Gupta, also from the 2007 batch, who was earlier holding additional charge as in-charge Secretary of the Sports and Youth Welfare Department, has now been relieved of that responsibility. He will now focus solely on his primary role as Secretary of the department.
This administrative adjustment is intended to streamline responsibilities and ensure smooth execution of electoral functions in Chhattisgarh ahead of upcoming poll-related activities.
