Who Is Abhishek Sehra? 2025-Batch IAS Officer Shifts Cadre From Karnataka to Uttar Pradesh After Marriage to IFS Officer Priya Meena
In a significant administrative development within the All India Services, 2025-batch Indian Administrative Service officer Abhishek Sehra has been granted a cadre transfer from Karnataka to Uttar Pradesh. The move comes right after his marriage to Priya Meena, a 2025-batch Indian Forest Service officer serving in the Uttar Pradesh cadre. The Department of Personnel and Training under the Union Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions formally approved the inter-cadre movement on marriage grounds, allowing the young couple to serve within the same state administration.
Hailing from the Jagatpura area in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Sehra was born on April 9, 2000. He built a strong academic foundation early on, graduating with a Bachelor of Technology degree from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Mandi. Inspired heavily by his father, a retired medical doctor, Sehra set his sights on public service soon after completing his engineering degree. His preparation strategy stood out for its high discipline; he dedicated roughly ten hours every day to his studies while strictly taking a weekly day off to avoid burnout during the demanding UPSC cycle.
That intense preparation paid off when he cracked the Civil Services Examination, securing an impressive All India Rank of 366. Following his selection into the IAS, he underwent foundational training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie before taking up his initial cadre posting under the Karnataka state government. However, his service trajectory took a quick turn following his marriage to Priya Meena.
Under Sub-Rule (2) of Rule 5 of the IAS (Cadre) Rules, 1954, All India Services officers are eligible to request an inter-cadre transfer on grounds of marriage to another service officer, provided both concerned state governments give their explicit administrative concurrence. While such transfers are never automatic and require thorough scrutiny by central authorities, Sehra’s application satisfied all regulatory criteria. With the official order now issued, the young bureaucrat exits the Karnataka cadre to start his next administrative chapter in Uttar Pradesh.
