The Odisha Government has extended suspension of IPSoOfficer Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao for fourth time.

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has extended the suspension of IPS officer Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao, a 2007 batch officer of the Odisha cadre, for another 30 days starting April 26, 2025. This marks the fourth consecutive extension since his initial suspension on July 30, 2024, amid ongoing disciplinary proceedings.

Uttamrao was originally suspended following allegations that he forcibly entered the home of a woman police inspector on the night of July 27, 2024, and allegedly misbehaved with her and her husband. The incident sparked significant concern within the police department and led to immediate disciplinary measures.

A review committee led by Odisha’s Chief Secretary convened on April 24, 2025, to examine the case. After reviewing relevant documents and evidence, the committee recommended continuing the suspension in light of the seriousness of the allegations and the necessity for further inquiry.

Before his suspension, Uttamrao served as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Fire Services and Home Guard. The repeated extensions underscore the state government’s firm stance on accountability and its zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct within the police force.
