Jharkhand: Administrative Disarray Follows Major State Police Reshuffle

A major reshuffle in the Jharkhand Police Department, carried out on May 27, has led to significant administrative challenges, with several IPS officers facing confusion regarding postings and a lack of proper office infrastructure.

Among the most notable issues is the case of ADG Sanjay Latkar (1995-batch), who has been transferred from ADG Operations to ADG Rail. However, the Rail Department does not have office space designated for an ADG, with existing infrastructure only accommodating DG, IG, and DIG-level officers. As a result, Latkar currently has no functional office.

A similar situation is being faced by Y.S. Ramesh (2010-batch), who was moved from DIG, Palamu Range to DIG, SCRB. The SCRB office has provisions only for SP and IG-level officers, leaving no designated space for DIGs.

The reshuffle impacted 45 IPS officers, including Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) from 14 districts. Additionally, three officers were assigned additional charges, while five replaced officers are still awaiting new postings, resulting in uncertainty within the force.

Of particular concern is the fact that three out of six DIG Range posts — in Hazaribagh, Bokaro, and Ranchi — remain vacant. These are high-sensitivity zones with significant law and order challenges. Experts warn that such prolonged vacancies and unresolved infrastructure issues may hinder effective policing and disrupt administrative efficiency in key areas.
