In his first official briefing since taking charge, Uttar Pradesh’s newly-appointed Director General of Police (DGP), Rajeev Krishna (1991-batch IPS officer), conducted a statewide video conference with senior police officials on Friday. The high-level interaction outlined a clear roadmap for crime prevention, technology integration, and citizen safety.

Tackling Crime Proactively – Big and Small

DGP Krishna stressed a proactive, preventive approach to law enforcement. He urged officers to remain alert not only to major crimes but also to smaller, seemingly minor offences.

“Even petty crimes can erode public confidence and create a sense of insecurity. Our response must be prompt and visible,” he emphasized.
Tech-Driven Action Against Repeat Offenders

Highlighting the role of digital tools, Krishna called for intensified efforts to track and control habitual offenders through robust data systems. He encouraged districts to adopt technology-backed crime analytics to anticipate and curb criminal activity before it occurs.

Women’s Safety: Zero Tolerance Approach

Ensuring women’s safety emerged as a top priority. The DGP directed that all cases involving crimes against women must be met with immediate FIR registration, swift investigations, and timely legal proceedings.

“Women should feel safe, empowered, and unafraid to seek help or report crimes,” he said firmly.

Combating the Surge in Cybercrime

Addressing the growing threat of cybercrime, Krishna underlined the need for specialized training and modern digital infrastructure to counter threats ranging from financial fraud to online harassment.
“Criminals are going digital, and so must we. Our approach must be agile and adaptive,” he said.

Embracing AI and Innovation in Policing

The DGP called on police departments to explore artificial intelligence and smart surveillance tools to enhance real-time monitoring, crime pattern recognition, and investigation capabilities.
“The goal is predictive and preventive policing—not just reactive,” he said.

Enhancing Public Trust Through Grievance Redressal

Mr. Krishna stressed that building public trust starts with prompt and transparent grievance redressal.

“Every complaint matters. A citizen-first mindset is vital to policing in the 21st century,” he added.

Building Capacity Through Continuous Training

Acknowledging the evolving nature of crime and enforcement, the DGP advocated for continuous training, skill-building workshops, and professional development across all ranks.

“A well-trained, informed police force is our most effective weapon against crime,” he concluded.
