The Tamil Nadu government has suspended Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) H.M. Jayaram, a 1996-batch IPS officer, following his alleged involvement in the abduction of a minor boy in Tiruvallur district.
Key Developments:
The Home Department issued the suspension order on June 17, a day after Jayaram was taken into custody per Madras High Court directives.
The officer stands accused of facilitating the abduction by allegedly providing his official vehicle to separate a couple.
Jayaram was detained outside the Madras High Court premises on June 16 and underwent six hours of interrogation at Thiruvalangadu police station.
Legal Proceedings:
The suspended officer has approached the Supreme Court seeking relief from the High Court’s appearance order.
Puratchi Bharatham Katchi leader and Kilvaithinakuppam MLA ‘Poovai’ M. Jagan Moorthy also appeared before investigators in connection with the case.
Current Status:
Jayaram remains in custody and is expected to be produced before a Tiruthani judicial magistrate as the high-profile case continues to draw intense scrutiny from both political circles and the public.
The suspension marks a rare disciplinary action against such a senior police official, with the case now poised to move through higher judicial channels.
