From Fisheries to National Acclaim: Himachal’s 2018-Batch IAS Officer Recognized for Excellence at Prestigious Training Program

Mussoorie/Shimla: Himachal Pradesh has once again shone on the national stage as IAS officer Vivek Chandel (HPAS-2004 batch) secured the Best Performance Award in Case Study Writing during the 127th Induction Training Program at the prestigious Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie.

The honor was conferred upon him by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at a grand ceremony held at the academy, recognizing Chandel’s exceptional analytical skills, administrative expertise, and policy insight.

Outshining Peers: A Standout Achievement

Among 97 newly appointed IAS officers from 19 states undergoing rigorous training, Vivek Chandel was the sole recipient of this distinguished award—a remarkable feat early in his civil service career.

The event was graced by LBSNAA Director Shriram Tarinikanti and Course Director Shailesh Naval, who praised Chandel’s outstanding contribution.

Yet Another Feather in His Cap

This isn’t Chandel’s first national recognition. Earlier this month, he was chosen as the Master of Ceremonies at an official event in Rashtrapati Bhavan (June 3), showcasing his exceptional public speaking and event-hosting abilities—a rare skill for an officer at his level.

A Legacy of Excellence

Chandel has consistently proven his mettle, having topped the Himachal Administrative Services (HAS) Exam in 2004. Currently serving as Director and Warden of the Himachal Pradesh Fisheries Department, he is known for his innovative policies, efficiency, and visionary leadership.

An Inspiration for Future Civil Servants

His achievement brings immense pride to Himachal Pradesh’s administrative fraternity, proving that dedication, hard work, and leadership can earn national acclaim—regardless of one’s state of origin.

The LBSNAA induction program is renowned as one of India’s most challenging administrative trainings, making Chandel’s success even more commendable.

Himachal’s Strong Representation

Alongside Chandel, two other officers from the state—Sunil Sharma (Special Secretary, Technical Education) and Vinay Kumar (ADC, Kangra)—participated in the program. However, it was Chandel who emerged as the national awardee, further elevating Himachal’s reputation in governance circles.
