Appointments Committee of the Cabinet Clears Key Administrative Posting in Union Finance Ministry
In a significant administrative development, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Chandrashekhar Nayaka L, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 2013 batch, Karnataka cadre, as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman.
Key Role and Tenure
As per the official notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Chandrashekhar Nayaka will serve at the Deputy Secretary level within the Ministry of Finance. His tenure as OSD will be for a period of four years from the date he assumes office, unless curtailed by earlier orders or by the conclusion of the Finance Minister’s term in office—whichever comes first.
Responsibilities and Significance
In this capacity, Nayaka will assist the Finance Minister in handling important administrative, policy, and coordination functions at the national level. The OSD role is often seen as crucial in ensuring smooth functioning within a minister’s office, involving close liaison with various departments, oversight of key files and proposals, and support in strategic policy execution.
Transition from State to Centre
To enable this central posting, the Government of Karnataka has been formally requested to relieve Chandrashekhar Nayaka from his current responsibilities at the earliest, thereby allowing him to assume his new role in the Union Finance Ministry without delay.
This appointment reflects the Centre’s continued effort to place capable and mid-career IAS officers in pivotal policy and support roles, especially in key ministries such as Finance, where administrative efficiency and strategic coordination are essential.
