Chandragupta Appointed IGP, Intelligence; Mithun H N Takes Over Mangaluru Law & Order
In a strategic realignment of senior police leadership, the Karnataka government has issued a revised order revisiting its earlier large-scale IPS reshuffle announced on July 15. The updated posting list focuses on critical departments including Intelligence, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and Mangaluru City Police.
Chandragupta Appointed IGP, Intelligence
Senior IPS officer Chandragupta, previously serving as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Northeastern Range, Kalaburagi, has now been reassigned as IGP, Intelligence. He succeeds Y.S. Ravi Kumar, who has been moved to the CID, a department tasked with probing high-profile and sensitive criminal cases. The Intelligence portfolio plays a vital role in national security coordination, internal surveillance, and inter-agency liaison.
Reassignments in Northeastern Range and Bengaluru Traffic
To fill the vacancy created by Chandragupta’s transfer, the government has appointed Shantanu Sinha as Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), Northeastern Range.
In Bengaluru, earlier changes have been revised.
Gopal M Byakod, previously named Joint Director of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), will now serve as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Bengaluru South.
Simi Mariam George, originally marked for transfer, will continue in her current post as Joint Director, FSL, reversing the earlier directive.
Mangaluru Law & Order Posting Updated
The government has revoked the transfer of Jitendra Kumar Dayama as DCP (Law & Order), Mangaluru City. He will continue to serve as Superintendent of Police (SP), Anti-Naxal Force, Udupi. To replace him, Mithun H N has now been appointed DCP (Law & Order), Mangaluru City — a sensitive assignment given the region’s communal and coastal security challenges.
Administrative Implications
This prompt revision to top-level IPS postings reflects internal assessments and feedback received post the original transfer order. The reshuffle is aimed at aligning strategic policing roles with the state’s security priorities, particularly ahead of upcoming national events and amid monsoon-season law and order sensitivities.
