About ITBP

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police, a specialized Central Armed Police Force under the Ministry of Home Affairs, was established in 1962 in the aftermath of the Sino-Indian War. Tasked with guarding India’s 3,488-kilometre-long border with China, the force is renowned for its expertise in high-altitude warfare, mountaineering, and skiing. Its personnel, popularly known as Himveers or “Snow Warriors,” are deployed in some of the world’s most inhospitable terrains to safeguard the nation’s frontiers, prevent smuggling, and ensure internal security.

Beyond border protection, the ITBP plays a critical role in disaster relief and rescue operations in the Himalayas and is entrusted with securing sensitive installations across India. The force operates under the guiding motto: “Shaurya – Dridhata – Karma Nishtha” (Valour – Determination – Devotion to Duty).
