IAS Officer Danish Ashraf Appointed Joint Development Commissioner at MSME Ministry

Danish Ashraf, a dynamic IAS officer from the 2011 batch of the AGMUT cadre, has been appointed as Joint Development Commissioner (Director Level) in the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his central deputation under the Central Staffing Scheme, assigning him to the Office of the Development Commissioner in Delhi for a tenure of five years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Appointment Cleared by DoPT

According to an official memorandum issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Ashraf’s appointment was recommended by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The DoPT has directed that he be relieved from his current responsibilities immediately to take charge of his new role.

Widely recognized for his proactive governance across Union Territories and North Indian states, IAS Danish Ashraf has built a reputation for administrative excellence and public service. His career reflects a steady trajectory of impactful leadership and policy implementation.

Personal and Professional Journey

Born on February 21, 1987, Ashraf hails from Bihar and entered the Indian Administrative Service through direct recruitment. He began his career with the Chandigarh Administration in 2013, shortly after completing his IAS training.

Throughout his service, he has held several high-impact roles, including Deputy Commissioner of the Central Zone in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, where he oversaw urban governance, sanitation, and public service delivery. In January 2023, he was appointed Special Secretary (Health) in the Government of NCT of Delhi, where he played a key role in shaping health policy and managing public health initiatives during critical periods.

Academic Credentials and Family Contributions

Ashraf’s academic background includes a bachelor’s degree from Patna College and a master’s in History from Hansraj College, University of Delhi. His Civil Services Examination optional subjects—History and Geography—reflect his deep engagement with the humanities and his people-centric approach to governance.

Beyond his professional achievements, Ashraf’s family has also contributed meaningfully to society. His daughter, Ruhi Danish Ashraf, an electronics engineer, earned recognition for teaching physics to students in Arunachal Pradesh—a unique educational initiative undertaken during his tenure in the region.

With his appointment to the MSME Ministry, Danish Ashraf is expected to bring his administrative acumen, policy expertise, and grassroots experience to one of India’s most vital sectors for economic growth and employment generation.
