Seasoned IAS Officer to Steer State Administration with Continuity and Experience
The Government of Meghalaya has appointed Dr. Shakeel P. Ahammed (IAS:1995:AM) as the state’s next Chief Secretary, succeeding Donald Philip Wahlang (IAS:1993:AM), who retires on September 30, 2025.
A Veteran Administrator to Lead the State
Currently serving as Additional Chief Secretary, Dr. Ahammed oversees critical portfolios including Home, Water Resources, and Corporate Social Responsibility, while also functioning as Chairman of the Board of Revenue. His new role as Chief Secretary will additionally encompass responsibilities as the State Vigilance Commissioner.
Strong Administrative Credentials
With a distinguished career in Meghalaya’s bureaucracy, Dr. Ahammed has previously held key positions such as Principal Secretary and Secretary to the Governor of Meghalaya. His deep institutional knowledge and wide-ranging administrative experience made him the leading candidate for the state’s top bureaucratic post.
