The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Prashant Kumar, a 2011-batch officer of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), as Director in the Technical Support Unit (TSU) under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Kumar was recommended for central deputation by the Ministry of Railways, and his appointment has been made under the Central Staffing Scheme (CSS). As per the official order, he will serve for a combined tenure of five years—encompassing both ex-cadre and CSS deputation—up to September 18, 2027, or until the conclusion of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (PMGS NMP), whichever is earlier.

The Technical Support Unit plays a pivotal role in the implementation of the PM GatiShakti initiative, a flagship program aimed at integrating infrastructure planning and improving multimodal connectivity across the country. With his engineering background and administrative experience, Kumar’s induction is expected to strengthen the DPIIT’s efforts in driving efficiency, coordination, and execution under this ambitious national master plan.
