Hyderabad’s new Commissioner of Police, V.C. Sajjanar, has opened digital communication channels for the public, enabling residents to reach him directly through X and Instagram. Citizens can now share complaints and concerns via his verified X handle.

The 1996-batch IPS officer, originally from the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh cadre and currently serving in Telangana, assumed charge as Hyderabad Police Commissioner after a state-wide IPS reshuffle on September 26, 2025. He replaced C.V. Anand, who was transferred to the state Home Department as Special Chief Secretary.

Sajjanar has long been recognized for his proactive policing methods and direct style of engagement. His decision to make himself accessible through social media reflects his commitment to citizen-friendly policing, echoing his earlier tenure as Cyberabad Police Commissioner, where he built a reputation for quick responses and approachable leadership.

Born in Hubli, Karnataka, Sajjanar studied commerce at JG College, Hubli, and later completed an MBA at Karnataka University, Dharwad. Over nearly thirty years of service, he has handled a wide range of roles, beginning as Assistant Superintendent of Police in Jangaon, Warangal, and Pulivendla.

As Superintendent of Police, he led police forces in Nalgonda, Kadapa, Guntur, Warangal, and Medak, and later headed the Economic Offences Wing of the CID. He also commanded OCTOPUS, the state’s counterterrorism unit, as well as the 6th Battalion of Andhra Pradesh Special Police at Mangalagiri.

He gained national attention during his Cyberabad tenure, most notably for his role in the 2019 Disha rape and murder case, when four accused were killed in an encounter that drew nationwide debate. Earlier, in 1996, he oversaw the elimination of three men accused of a gruesome acid attack in Warangal, a case that also made national headlines.

Beyond field policing, Sajjanar has held senior intelligence postings, serving as DIG and IG in the Intelligence Department until 2018. He later returned to Cyberabad as Commissioner before moving to a governance role in 2021 as Managing Director of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), where he launched significant reforms.

With his latest initiative of opening up direct digital access, Sajjanar is blending technology, accountability, and public interaction. This move is expected to strike a chord with Hyderabad’s urban and tech-savvy citizens, reinforcing his image as a people-oriented police leader.
