Punjab’s IAS Officers Donate ₹5 Lakh to Flood Relief, Forgo Diwali Celebrations to Support ‘Mission Chardi Kala’
In a heartfelt gesture of solidarity, members of the Punjab State IAS Officers Association have announced a donation of ₹5 lakh to the state’s flagship flood recovery initiative, Mission Chardi Kala. Choosing compassion over celebration, the officers have opted for a subdued Diwali this year to stand with families affected by recent floods.
A Diwali of Service, Not Splendor
On Tuesday, a group of senior IAS officers met Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to formally convey their decision to skip traditional Diwali festivities. Instead of spending on decorations and gifts, they will redirect their resources to support ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts under Mission Chardi Kala.
The association stated that this symbolic act reflects their collective commitment to aiding those grappling with the aftermath of natural disasters.
Sustained Support for Flood-Affected Communities
This donation follows an earlier contribution made by the officers, who had previously given one day’s salary to assist flood victims. The current financial aid is intended to reinforce the state’s continuing efforts to rebuild and restore flood-hit areas.
Mission Chardi Kala, launched by the Punjab government, is a people-centric campaign focused on reconstructing damaged infrastructure, reviving livelihoods, and helping displaced families regain stability.
Chief Minister Applauds Bureaucratic Solidarity
Chief Minister Mann praised the officers’ initiative, describing it as a shining example of collaborative governance. He emphasized that meaningful partnerships between civil servants, institutions, and citizens are essential for effective disaster response.
“Punjab’s true strength lies in its unity. When everyone joins hands—officers, institutions, and the public—we can overcome any challenge,” Mann remarked.
Commitment to Public Welfare
The IAS Officers’ Association reaffirmed its dedication to supporting the people of Punjab during times of crisis. They expressed their willingness to assist in any capacity required to further relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Their unified action sends a powerful message of compassion, leadership, and civic responsibility—setting a benchmark for other professional groups to emulate.
