Ambassador Raj Kumar Singh Appointed India’s Envoy to Guatemala, Also Accredited to El Salvador and Honduras

The Government of India has appointed Raj Kumar Singh (IFS: 1996) as the Ambassador of India to the Republic of Guatemala, with additional concurrent accreditation to El Salvador and Honduras. He will operate from Guatemala City, overseeing India’s diplomatic engagements across all three Central American nations.

Expanded Role in Central America

Ambassador Singh officially assumed charge of his new responsibilities in September 2025. His appointment marks a strategic effort to enhance India’s outreach and cooperation with the Central American region through integrated diplomatic representation.

Educational Profile and Early Career

Born on December 10, 1968, Raj Kumar Singh holds a Master’s degree in History and an M.Phil. in Chinese Studies. He entered the Indian Foreign Service in 1996, beginning his journey as an Officer Trainee at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), New Delhi, where he gained foundational exposure to India’s external affairs management.

Extensive Service at MEA Headquarters

Over nearly three decades in service, Ambassador Singh has held a range of key positions at MEA headquarters. From May 2023 to August 2025, he served as Joint Secretary, following his tenure as Director between June 2017 and April 2023. Earlier in his career, he worked as Under Secretary in the PAI and East Africa Divisions from October 2000 to July 2003. His long administrative and policy experience at the headquarters has honed his expertise in handling multi-country diplomatic portfolios.

Family

Ambassador Singh is married to Mrs. Anjali Singh, and together they have two sons — Ishan Singh and Sarvesh Singh.

With his broad diplomatic background and experience spanning Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, Ambassador Singh’s new role is expected to further advance India’s partnerships and developmental cooperation in Central America.
