In a key administrative move aimed at ensuring continuity in leadership at one of India’s most prominent trade promotion bodies, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has granted ex-post facto approval for the assignment of additional charge of the post of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO), to Mr. Nitin Kumar Yadav, IAS officer of the 2000 batch, Haryana cadre.
As per the approved order, Mr. Yadav — who is currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry — has been entrusted with this additional role effective from October 25, 2025. He will continue to hold this position until the assumption of charge by the newly appointed Managing Director, Shri Neeraj Kharwal, IAS (UK:2007), or until further orders are issued, whichever event occurs earlier.
The India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO), headquartered at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, functions as the nodal agency of the Government of India responsible for organizing and promoting international trade fairs, exhibitions, and export-related events that showcase India’s economic and industrial capabilities on the global stage. As CMD (in-charge), Mr. Yadav will oversee the overall management, trade facilitation, and strategic coordination of ITPO’s flagship events — including the India International Trade Fair (IITF) — which plays a vital role in boosting India’s trade engagement with global markets.
Mr. Yadav, a senior bureaucrat with extensive experience in commerce, industry, and public administration, has previously held key positions in both the Central and State Governments. His leadership is expected to provide strategic continuity and administrative stability during the transition period, ensuring that ITPO’s ongoing initiatives related to export promotion, MSME participation, and international trade partnerships continue seamlessly.
The ACC’s approval of this additional charge reflects the government’s broader administrative strategy of leveraging the expertise of senior officers to maintain operational efficiency in critical institutions under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
The official communication of this decision has been issued to the Department of Commerce, under the supervision of Shri Rajesh Agarwal, Secretary (Commerce), New Delhi.
This appointment underscores the government’s commitment to sustaining leadership continuity in premier trade institutions, particularly at a time when India’s export and trade promotion agenda is being expanded to align with “Viksit Bharat 2047”, the national vision for becoming a developed economy.
