Government Endorses Appointment of Former Diplomat Jawed Ashraf as Chairman of India Trade Promotion Organization
In a significant administrative decision, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has formally sanctioned the appointment of Mr Jawed Ashraf, a retired officer of the Indian Foreign Service from the 1991 batch, to the prestigious position of Chairman of the India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO).
According to the official order, Ashraf will assume this role at Level–17 of the Central Government pay matrix, which corresponds to one of the highest grades in the civil service hierarchy. His appointment will be on a contractual basis for a tenure of two years, commencing from the date he takes charge of the office. The notification further clarifies that the tenure may conclude earlier if superseded by subsequent government directives.
The terms of his engagement will follow the standard rules and conditions applicable to re-employed officers of the Central Government, ensuring parity with established service norms.
This appointment underscores the government’s confidence in Ashraf’s extensive diplomatic experience and leadership capabilities, positioning him to guide ITPO in advancing India’s trade promotion initiatives on both domestic and international platforms.
