UP Police Braces for Major Leadership Overhaul as Senior IPS Officers Daljit Singh Chaudhary and Tilottama Verma Retire; Key DG Promotions on the Horizon
The Uttar Pradesh Police force is set to undergo a substantial reshaping of its top leadership as two of its most senior and respected officers—Mr. Daljit Singh Chaudhary and Ms. Tilottama Verma, both belonging to the 1990 batch of the Indian Police Service—are scheduled to retire on November 30.
Their exit marks the conclusion of illustrious careers marked by decades of service in critical operational, administrative, and strategic policing roles. Their retirement will leave two important Director General (DG) positions unoccupied, prompting a series of consequential promotions and internal restructuring.
Key Promotions Likely to Fill the DG-Level Vacancies
With these significant vacancies opening up, senior officials within the state police establishment have indicated that two Additional Directors General (ADGs) are poised for elevation.
Mr. Sujit Pandey, currently serving as the ADG of the Lucknow Zone and Mr. Prakash D., presently the ADG of the Government Railway Police (GRP) are expected to be promoted to DG rank.
These anticipated appointments are seen as crucial for maintaining operational stability, strengthening command structures, and ensuring uninterrupted oversight of public safety, intelligence coordination, and frontline policing across Uttar Pradesh.
Future Roles for the Retiring Officers
Mr. Daljit Singh Chaudhary, who presently holds the position of Director General in the Border Security Force (BSF), is likely to be considered for a strategic assignment even after superannuation, given his vast experience in border management, security operations, and organizational leadership.
Ms. Tilottama Verma has similarly held several prominent leadership roles in the state police, contributing to modern policing initiatives, crime prevention strategies, and administrative reforms. Her retirement marks the departure of one of the most experienced women officers in the UP Police cadre.
Additional IPS Retirements Signal a Broad Administrative Shift
The leadership change extends beyond the DG level. Three more IPS officers are also set to retire on November 30:
Mr. Arun Kumar Srivastava, DIG, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC)
Mr. Prakash Swaroop Pandey, Superintendent of Police, State Tax Department
Mr. Shivaji, Superintendent of Police, Technical Services
Their departure represents a significant generational transition, opening pathways for mid-level officers to move into roles requiring higher responsibilities.
Four PPS Officers Also Conclude Their Service Tenure
Alongside the IPS transitions, the Uttar Pradesh Police will also bid farewell to four Provincial Police Service (PPS) officers at the end of November:
Mr. Atul Pradhan, Deputy SP, Etawah
Mr. Amardeep Lal, Deputy SP, Agra Police Commissionerate
Mr. Ram Sen Singh, posted in the Anti-Corruption wing
Mr. Chhote Singh, posted at Police Headquarters
These retirements will trigger further upward movement within the PPS cadre, ensuring continuity in district-level administration and specialized units.
Ensuring a Seamless Transition and Sustained Governance
The combined impact of these retirements and the upcoming promotions reflects the Uttar Pradesh Police’s systematic approach to succession planning. By preparing to fill key vacancies promptly, the organization aims to maintain administrative efficiency, reinforce leadership capacity, and uphold the high standards of law and order across the state.
This leadership overhaul is expected to bring renewed energy into the force, enhance decision-making at senior levels, and contribute to stronger governance and public safety management throughout Uttar Pradesh.
