Andhra Pradesh Extends Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand’s Tenure Until February 2026; G. Sai Prasad Seen as Front-Runner for Next CS

The Andhra Pradesh government has extended the service of Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand (IAS, 1992 batch) by three months, with approval from the central government. His tenure, which was earlier set to end on November 30, 2025, will now continue until February 28, 2026. This decision was earlier reported by Indian Masterminds on November 20, 2025.

Who Might Become the Next Chief Secretary?

Even as Vijayanand’s term is extended, discussions have already begun about who will succeed him.

According to senior officials, G. Sai Prasad (IAS, 1991 batch), the Special Chief Secretary of Water Resources, is the leading candidate. He is known for being efficient, calm in handling issues, and free from controversies. Sai Prasad was also considered when Vijayanand was first appointed Chief Secretary. If things go as expected, he may take over the top post in March 2026, right after Vijayanand’s term ends.

About K. Vijayanand

K. Vijayanand, born on November 18, 1965, joined the IAS at the age of 27 and is now one of Andhra Pradesh’s most experienced administrators. He holds an M.Tech. degree and has worked in several major areas, including:

Infrastructure development

Governance reforms

Policy planning and implementation

Currently serving as the state’s top bureaucrat, Vijayanand is respected for his disciplined work style and leadership. His extension reflects the government’s trust in his ability to guide the administration through an important period.

Who is G. Sai Prasad?

G. Sai Prasad, born on May 6, 1966, is a 1991-batch IAS officer and holds an M.Tech. degree. Over his long career, he has handled major responsibilities across:

Water resources

Public administration

Energy and infrastructure

Land administration (as Chief Commissioner of Land Administration)

He is also Ex-Officio Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister and enjoys strong support from senior political leaders.

Why He Is the Top Contender

Several reasons make Sai Prasad the most likely choice for the next Chief Secretary:

He will remain in service until June 2026, ensuring administrative continuity.

Previously served as Principal Secretary to CM Chandrababu Naidu (2014–2019).

Reportedly has clear political backing for the CS role.

Respected for honesty, technical skill, seniority, and balanced leadership.

Receives positive support from influential party voices online.

With Vijayanand’s short extension and a likely smooth transition ahead, Andhra Pradesh appears prepared for a change in top bureaucracy, with G. Sai Prasad widely expected to take charge in early 2026.
