Centre Upgrades Financial Advisor Post in Delhi Police to Director Level; Position Currently Held by Atul Prakash

The Central Government has approved a major administrative upgrade within the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) by redesignating the post of Financial Advisor in the Delhi Police to the Director level. This position is currently occupied by Mr. Atul Prakash, who will now serve in the upgraded capacity.

The redesignation means that the role, which previously operated at a lower seniority level, has now been elevated in status, authority, and responsibility. By upgrading the post to the Director level, the government aims to strengthen financial oversight, improve budget management, and enhance decision-making within the Delhi Police—an organisation that handles one of the largest law-and-order budgets in the country.

As Director-level Financial Advisor, Mr. Prakash will now be responsible for:

supervising financial planning for the entire Delhi Police force,

ensuring proper utilisation of funds across various units and security operations,

providing higher-level financial advice to senior police and MHA leadership,

improving transparency and compliance in expenditure,

monitoring procurement, infrastructure projects, and welfare schemes, and

coordinating with audit bodies and government finance departments.

Upgrading this post reflects the government’s focus on strengthening financial governance for security agencies, especially in a metropolitan force as large and complex as the Delhi Police.

The order also aligns the financial management structure of the Delhi Police with the scale of its operations, ensuring that a senior-level officer has the authority required to oversee critical budget and expenditure functions.
