Gujarat Promotes Six Senior IPS Officers; Key Upgrades Include P.V. Rathod Rising to IGP and Central Deputation Officers Getting Proforma Promotion

The Gujarat government has announced a major round of promotions for senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers. A total of six officers, including several serving with central agencies, have been elevated to higher ranks. The promotions were approved by the state Home Department and have come into force immediately.

According to the official order, the state cleared these upgrades “in public interest”, highlighting the importance of strengthening leadership across both state and central police institutions.

Two Officers Elevated to Director General of Police (DGP) Rank

Manoj Sashidhar — Promoted While on Central Deputation

Batch: IPS 1994

Current Role: Special Director, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)

New Status: Proforma promotion to the DGP rank

Although Manoj Sashidhar is presently posted with the CBI in New Delhi, he has been granted a proforma promotion by the Gujarat government. This ensures that his seniority and pay scale remain aligned with his batch and career progression in the state cadre.

Raju Bhargava — Appointed DGP (Armed Units)

Batch: IPS 1995

Previous Role: Additional DGP, Armed Units, Gandhinagar

New Role: Director General of Police (Armed Units)

To accommodate his promotion, the Gujarat government upgraded the existing post from ADGP to DGP level, allowing him to officially take charge as the head of the Armed Units.

Four Officers Promoted to Inspector General of Police (IGP)
Central Deputation Officers (Proforma Promotion)

Three officers of the 2007 batch, currently working with central agencies, have received proforma promotions to the IGP rank:

Divya Mishra – Posted with the Intelligence Bureau (IB)

Deepan Bhadran – Serving in the Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India

Saurabh Tolumbia – Working with GAIL (India) Limited

These promotions ensure that while serving outside Gujarat, their career progression remains uninterrupted.

P.V. Rathod — Promoted to IGP, CID (Crime)

Batch: IPS 2007

Previous Role: Deputy Inspector General (DIG), CID (Crime), Gandhinagar

New Role: IGP, CID (Crime)

Her DIG post has been upgraded to IGP level, allowing her to assume the higher responsibility within the state’s crime investigation unit.
