Government Extends Central Deputation of IAS Officer Lalit Jain at RGI-Linked Assignment in Haryana Till December 2026
The Union Government has approved the continuation of the Central deputation tenure of Shri Lalit Jain, a 2011-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, who is presently serving as DCO/DCR in Haryana.
As per an official memorandum issued by the Office of the Registrar General of India (RGI) on December 10, 2025, the competent authority has sanctioned the proposal to extend Shri Jain’s deputation beyond its existing term, which was due to conclude on December 31, 2025. Under the revised order, his deputation will now remain in effect until December 6, 2026, or until further instructions are issued by the government, whichever occurs earlier.
The extension has been granted under the Central Staffing Scheme, which governs appointments and deputation tenures of All India Service officers to posts under the Government of India. Such extensions are generally approved to ensure continuity in key administrative and technical roles that involve coordination between the Centre and the states.
In his current capacity as DCO/DCR, Shri Lalit Jain is responsible for overseeing important functions related to civil registration systems, population data administration, and coordination with the Office of the Registrar General of India. His role is considered critical for maintaining accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting in demographic and civil registration operations at the state level.
Officials indicated that the decision to extend his tenure reflects the need for sustained leadership and institutional continuity in ongoing assignments, particularly those linked to national data systems and governance frameworks. The extension order will remain valid until December 6, 2026, or until further orders are issued by the competent authority, in accordance with the provisions of the Central Staffing Scheme.
