Bihar has once again emerged as a strong performer in the Civil Services Examination, with 15 candidates from the state securing selection to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in the latest UPSC results. Of these successful candidates, ten officers have been allotted the Bihar cadre, underscoring the state’s continued prominence in India’s administrative landscape and its deep-rooted culture of civil services preparation.

This latest achievement has reignited a sense of pride across Bihar, reinforcing the state’s reputation as one of the country’s most reliable talent pools for the nation’s premier civil services.

A Consistent Cradle of Civil Services Aspirants

Year after year, Bihar’s aspirants demonstrate that disciplined study routines, long-term perseverance and academic focus can lead to success in one of the world’s most competitive examinations. Urban centres such as Patna, Gaya and Muzaffarpur have long served as foundational training grounds, offering an environment that encourages serious preparation and peer learning.

Many aspirants begin their journey in these cities before advancing to national-level coaching centres for refined preparation, creating a pipeline that continues to produce high-ranking officers.

Top Merit Ranks Reflect Depth of Talent

Bihar’s presence in the upper ranks of the UPSC merit list further highlights the state’s strong showing. Raj Krishna Jha from Sitamarhi secured All India Rank 8, placing him among the top candidates nationwide. He was closely followed by Hemant, who achieved AIR 13, and Sanskriti Trivedi, who secured AIR 17.

The distribution of successful candidates across a wide range of ranks reflects not just individual excellence, but the overall depth and consistency of talent emerging from Bihar.

New Officers to Begin Careers Across India

The selected candidates will now commence their administrative careers across various states and Union Territories, gaining exposure to diverse governance systems, regional challenges and public service responsibilities. Their success has generated widespread celebration among families, teachers, coaching institutes and fellow aspirants across Bihar, who view these achievements as both validation and inspiration.

Cadre Allotment: A Defining Phase in an IAS Career

Cadre allocation is a crucial milestone for every IAS officer, as it determines the geographical and administrative framework within which the officer begins service. The allotted cadre influences field postings, administrative exposure and long-term professional development, while also shaping opportunities for future central deputation.

Historically, officers from Bihar have served with distinction in multiple states and have gone on to hold senior positions at the national level, reflecting the adaptability and administrative strength associated with the state’s officers.

Ten Officers Allotted Bihar Cadre

As per the UPSC 2024 cadre allotment list, ten of the newly selected IAS officers have been assigned to the Bihar cadre. Among them, Raj Krishna Jha (AIR 8) has been allotted his home cadre, a development that has sparked particular enthusiasm in his native district of Sitamarhi.

Cadre allocation is determined through a combination of candidate preferences, merit rank and prevailing government policies, making the process both competitive and strategically significant.

Bihar Reaffirms Its Role in India’s Administrative Backbone

With yet another strong performance in the Civil Services Examination, Bihar has once again cemented its position as one of India’s most consistent contributors to the IAS. The success of 15 candidates, coupled with substantial cadre allotment to the state, is expected to motivate a fresh generation of aspirants and strengthen Bihar’s enduring legacy in the country’s administrative services.
