IRS Officer Garima Sharma’s Position Elevated to Director in Higher Education Department Under Central Staffing Scheme

The competent authority has granted formal approval to a proposal upgrading the post currently occupied by Ms. Garima Sharma, IRS (Income Tax cadre: 2012), in the Department of Higher Education.

In accordance with the sanctioned decision, the existing position of Deputy Secretary will be re-designated as Director in the Department of Higher Education, as a personal upgradation applicable exclusively to her assignment.

As per the terms of the approval, the re-designation will come into force from 1 January 2026 or from the date on which Ms. Sharma formally assumes charge of the upgraded post, whichever is later.

The Director-level designation will remain valid until 1 September 2029, thereby completing the maximum permissible tenure of five years under the provisions of the Central Staffing Scheme.

The order makes it clear that this elevation is a personal measure and does not imply any permanent restructuring or cadre-level change within the Department of Higher Education.

The upgraded designation will subsist only for the duration of Ms. Sharma’s approved central deputation and will automatically lapse upon completion of the sanctioned tenure.

Ms. Garima Sharma’s central deputation commenced with effect from 2 September 2024. During this period, she will continue to serve in the Department of Higher Education, discharging responsibilities at the Director level in alignment with the functional and administrative requirements prescribed under the Central Staffing Scheme.
