Ajay Bartwal Elevated to Director Rank in Cabinet Secretariat: ACC Clears Special Redesignation Till February 2029
The Government of India has formally approved a significant administrative elevation within the Cabinet Secretariat, granting Director-level status to a senior Indian Railway Accounts Service officer.
As per the latest official order, the Competent Authority has sanctioned the redesignation of the post currently occupied by Shri Ajay Bartwal, IRAS (2012 batch). His existing position of Deputy Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat (SR) has now been upgraded and redesignated as Director in the Cabinet Secretariat (SR) through a special, officer-specific administrative measure.
The redesignated Director-level appointment will take effect from January 1, 2026, or from the actual date on which Shri Bartwal formally assumes charge of the upgraded post — whichever occurs later.
This enhanced designation has been approved for a fixed tenure extending up to February 21, 2029, thereby completing the maximum permissible five-year term under the Central Staffing Scheme.
It has also been officially noted that Shri Ajay Bartwal has been serving on central deputation since February 22, 2024, marking the commencement of his assignment within the Cabinet Secretariat.
The elevation reflects the Government’s recognition of his administrative performance and is intended to ensure continuity, efficiency, and strengthened leadership within the Secretariat’s strategic and coordination functions.
