IAS Officer Vibha Chahal (2012 Batch) Appointed as Director in Food & Public Distribution Ministry Under Central Staffing Scheme
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has formally approved the appointment of Ms. Vibha Chahal, IAS (2012 batch) to a key leadership role at the Centre. She has been selected for appointment as Director in the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, under the Central Staffing Scheme.
As per the official order, Ms. Chahal will serve in this capacity for a fixed tenure of five years commencing from the date she assumes charge of the post, or until further instructions are issued by the competent authority, whichever is applicable earlier.
Her appointment is part of the Government of India’s continued effort to strengthen administrative leadership in critical ministries that directly influence national food security, public distribution systems, essential commodity regulation, and welfare delivery mechanisms.
The Department of Food and Public Distribution plays a pivotal role in overseeing the Public Distribution System (PDS), implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), management of foodgrain procurement, storage, movement and distribution, and ensuring uninterrupted supply of subsidised food to millions of beneficiaries across the country.
With her proven administrative experience and governance credentials, Ms. Vibha Chahal is expected to bring enhanced efficiency, policy discipline and operational transparency to the department’s functioning, especially at a time when food price stability, inflation control, and welfare outreach remain key priorities of the Union Government.
Her induction at the Director level also reflects the Centre’s continued reliance on experienced All India Services officers for strengthening policy execution and service delivery in sensitive and high-impact sectors.
