IAS Officer Geetika Sharma’s Post Upgraded to Director Level in the Ministry of Mines
The Government of India has formally approved the upgradation of the position currently held by Ms. Geetika Sharma, IAS, by redesignating her post from Deputy Secretary to Director in the Ministry of Mines, under the framework of the Central Staffing Scheme.
The proposal was cleared by the Competent Authority, authorizing a personal upgradation of the post presently occupied by Ms. Sharma. The redesignated appointment will take effect from the date she assumes charge of the upgraded Director-level position.
Under the approved order, Ms. Sharma will continue to serve in the Ministry of Mines at the Director rank for the remaining duration of her admissible central deputation tenure, or until any subsequent directives are issued by the Government of India, whichever occurs earlier.
The Ministry of Mines plays a pivotal role in formulating national mineral policies, regulating mining operations, ensuring sustainable extraction practices, and promoting investment in India’s mineral and critical resource sectors.
The elevation of Ms. Sharma is intended to strengthen the Ministry’s senior administrative leadership at a time when India is accelerating reforms in critical minerals, rare earth exploration, mineral security strategies, and sustainable mining initiatives.
With her experience in auditing, compliance oversight, and governance systems, Ms. Sharma is expected to contribute significantly to policy execution, regulatory monitoring, and institutional strengthening within the Ministry of Mines.
