Centre Appoints IPS Officer Anand Swaroop as Special Secretary for Internal Security in MHA, Elevated to Pay Matrix Level-17

In a major administrative move, the Government of India has approved the appointment of senior IPS officer Anand Swaroop as the new Special Secretary (Internal Security) in the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Under the official order, Anand Swaroop has been elevated to the prestigious Level-17 position in the central pay matrix and will assume charge of the critical internal security portfolio within the Ministry of Home Affairs.

He has been posted against the vacancy created due to the reassignment of IPS officer Praveen Vashishtha, thereby formally replacing him in the top-tier internal security leadership of the Union Home Ministry.

The appointment places Anand Swaroop in charge of overseeing sensitive national security matters, including internal threat assessment, counter-terrorism strategy, intelligence coordination, border management policies, and internal stability frameworks across the country.

This key posting reflects the central government’s intent to reinforce the leadership of the internal security apparatus at a time when emerging security challenges require experienced and high-level administrative stewardship.
