The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has formally approved the re-designation of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Vishal Gupta (IAS:2012:GJ) as Private Secretary at the Director level to the Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. The re-designation was sanctioned by the competent authority and communicated through an official order released by the DoPT on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. According to the notification, the position of Private Secretary, which Gupta previously held at the Deputy Secretary level, has now been upgraded to the Director level. As per the DoPT order, the upgraded Director-level designation will come into effect from the date Vishal Gupta formally assumes charge in his new capacity. The tenure of this appointment has been set to remain valid until June 5, 2030.
However, the order also outlines specific conditions governing the appointment. The tenure will operate on a co-terminus basis with the Minister, meaning it will remain valid only as long as Gupta continues to serve as Private Secretary to the Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, or until further instructions are issued, whichever occurs earlier.
