Government Approves Extension of Upgraded Posts for Senior Bureaucrats in CBSE and Department of Investment & Public Asset Management

In a significant administrative decision, the Government of India has sanctioned the continuation of upgraded positions for two senior officers, thereby extending their tenure at elevated ranks within key institutions.

Firstly, the post of Chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which had earlier been elevated from the level of Joint Secretary to that of Additional Secretary, will remain upgraded until 25 March 2027. This position is currently held by Shri Rahul Singh, IAS (Bihar Cadre, 1996 batch). The extension ensures that the leadership of CBSE continues to benefit from the enhanced administrative stature and authority associated with the rank of Additional Secretary, thereby strengthening governance in the country’s premier school education board.

Secondly, the Government has also approved the continuation of the upgraded post of Joint Secretary to the level of Additional Secretary in the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), Ministry of Finance. This post is presently occupied by Shri Alok Pandey, Indian Postal Service (1994 batch). The extension of this upgraded position has been granted until 24 November 2026, thereby reinforcing the department’s capacity to oversee critical functions related to investment management and the strategic disinvestment of public assets.

These extensions reflect the government’s emphasis on ensuring experienced leadership at higher administrative levels in crucial sectors such as education and finance. By maintaining these posts at the Additional Secretary level, the government aims to provide greater institutional authority, policy continuity, and operational efficiency in areas that directly impact national development.
