Maharashtra Reshuffle: 4 IAS Officers Transferred; Dr. Sunil Bhokre Appointed Commissioner of Urban Health

In a significant administrative move on February 2, 2026, the Government of Maharashtra issued fresh transfer and posting orders for four senior officials. This reshuffle is particularly noteworthy as it includes the first postings of newly inducted Selection Grade (Non-SCS) officers following a recent notification from the Union Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

The realignment aims to bolster critical sectors, including food safety, urban health, and social welfare, by strategically deploying officers with specialized field experience.

Strategic Highlights of the Reshuffle

 Strengthening Food and Drug Safety

Shridhar Dube, a 2014-batch officer, takes the helm of the FDA in Mumbai. This appointment is seen as a priority move to tighten regulatory oversight and ensure the safety of food and pharmaceutical supplies in the state’s commercial capital.

 Focus on Urban Public Health

The appointment of Dr. Sunil Bhokre as the Commissioner of Urban Health is a strategic response to the evolving healthcare needs of Mumbai’s dense population. Having previously led the Maharashtra AIDS Control Society, Dr. Bhokre brings significant expertise in public health administration and epidemic control to this newly focused role.

 Selection Grade (Non-SCS) Induction

Three of the four appointees—Satyajit Bade, Dr. Sunil Bhokre, and Rahul Kulkarni—were formally inducted into the IAS through the Selection Grade (Non-SCS) route via a DoPT notification dated January 28, 2026. Their immediate deployment into specialized roles (Disability Welfare, Urban Health, and Cooperatives) suggests a government strategy to utilize domain-specific expertise from state services in top-tier administration.

Welfare for Persons with Disabilities

Satyajit Bade’s move to Pune as the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities is expected to accelerate the implementation of welfare schemes and accessibility initiatives across the state, leveraging his experience in rural administration (Raigad ZP).
