UP: Focused effort to streamline leadership in key units with shifting of 5 top cops

In a continuation of its major administrative overhaul, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government transferred five senior IPS officers on Friday evening, February 6, 2026. This follows a massive reshuffle involving 24 IPS officials just a day prior, signaling a focused effort to streamline leadership in key units like the STF, Anti-Corruption, and Establishment.

Notably, four of these five officers were awaiting new assignments after their recent promotions to the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG).

Ghule Sushil Chandrabhan (DIG, STF)

A 2012-batch officer from Maharashtra, Chandrabhan has been elevated to head the Special Task Force at the DIG level. Known for his tenure as SSP Bareilly, he is recognized for handling high-pressure law-and-order situations and sensitive religious festivals.

Akhilesh Kumar Chaurasia (DIG Establishment)

A tech-savvy engineer (B.Tech Electrical) from the 2009 batch, Chaurasia moves to the high-stakes Establishment wing. In this role, he will oversee personnel management, including transfers and promotions for the entire state force. He previously served in the CBI and the Anti-Corruption Organization.

Yamuna Prasad (DIG PTS, Moradabad)

Known for his field experience as DCP Noida, Prasad will now lead the Police Training School in Moradabad. His focus will be on modernizing officer training to meet evolving security challenges.

Hemraj Meena (DIG UPSIFS)

A resident of Rajasthan with a background in Hindi Literature, Meena takes charge of the Forensic Sciences Institute in Lucknow. His appointment underscores the government’s push to integrate scientific investigation techniques into mainstream policing.

Sachindra Patel (DIG ACO)

With a B.Tech in IT and experience in the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Patel succeeds Chaurasia in the Anti-Corruption Organization. His technical background is expected to assist in investigating complex financial and administrative irregularities.

Context of the Overhaul

These transfers come on the heels of the February 4 reshuffle, where 24 officers were reassigned, including:

Dr. Kaustubh: A former eye surgeon, now SSP Gorakhpur.

Charu Nigam: Appointed SP Sultanpur after a two-year stint away from field duties.

Anukriti Sharma: Promoted to ADCP Gautam Buddh Nagar following her work exposing a ₹100 crore insurance scam.
