UPSC Success Story: IIT Gold Medalist Abhishek Chauhan Secures AIR 102 in First Attempt, Uncle of U-19 Star Vaibhav Suryavanshi
In an inspiring achievement, Abhishek Chauhan from Bihar has cleared the prestigious Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination 2025 with an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 102 in his very first attempt.
Interestingly, Abhishek Chauhan is also the maternal uncle of India’s Under-19 cricket star Vaibhav Suryavanshi. His success has become a moment of pride not only for his family but also for the entire Samastipur district in Bihar.
Celebrations in Samastipur
Soon after the UPSC results were declared on March 6, 2026, celebrations began in Abhishek’s native Rajajan village. Villagers burst firecrackers, distributed sweets, and gathered to congratulate him on the remarkable achievement.
The news quickly spread across the district, and many residents described it as a proud moment for Samastipur.
Strong Family Background
Abhishek Chauhan comes from an academically accomplished family. He is the son of Abhay Kumar Singh and Anuradha Rajput.
His father currently serves as the Registrar of Nalanda Open University.
The family’s happiness was also visible on social media when Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s father, Sanjeev Suryavanshi, shared a photograph with Abhishek and described the moment as a proud achievement for the entire family.
Brilliant Academic Journey
Abhishek Chauhan has been a meritorious student since childhood.
He completed his schooling at Ramakrishna Mission School Purulia. After that, he pursued an Integrated M.Tech in Geology from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, where he graduated as a gold medalist.
Following his graduation, Abhishek briefly worked for around six months at a multinational company. However, he soon decided to leave the job to pursue his dream of serving the nation through the civil services.
UPSC Preparation Through Self-Study
Abhishek began preparing for the civil services examination in 2022. Instead of relying heavily on coaching institutes, he focused primarily on self-study and expert guidance while preparing from Hajipur.
In 2025, he successfully cleared both the UPSC Preliminary and Main examinations, and later appeared for the personality test in 2026. During the interview stage, he confidently answered questions posed by the panel.
His dedication and disciplined preparation ultimately resulted in AIR 102 in UPSC CSE 2025, which will likely secure him a position in the Indian Police Service.
Inspiration for Youth in Bihar
Abhishek Chauhan’s achievement has inspired many students across Samastipur and other parts of Bihar.
Local residents say that while his nephew Vaibhav Suryavanshi is bringing pride to the district through his achievements in cricket, Abhishek Chauhan has enhanced the region’s reputation by entering India’s elite civil services.
This uncle-nephew duo is now being seen as a symbol of inspiration for young people in the region.
