CM Stalin Urges Tamil Nadu Youth to Join Civil Services, Felicitates 60 UPSC Achievers in Chennai

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has called upon the state’s youth to actively pursue careers in the Indian civil services, emphasizing the need for greater representation of officers from Tamil Nadu in the country’s administrative machinery.

Speaking at a felicitation ceremony in Chennai, the Chief Minister congratulated 60 successful candidates who cleared the UPSC examinations this year, securing positions in the IAS, IPS, and other central services. He urged them to serve the nation with dedication, integrity, and compassion, while also expressing hope that many more youngsters from Tamil Nadu would follow in their footsteps in the coming years.

Government Initiatives to Boost UPSC Success

Stalin highlighted the relatively low success rate of Tamil Nadu candidates in UPSC examinations in earlier years. Since assuming office in 2021, his government has introduced several initiatives to improve the performance of aspirants.

One of the flagship programs, the Naan Mudhalvan scheme, has been instrumental in providing structured guidance, training, and mentorship to students preparing for competitive examinations. The Chief Minister proudly noted that 56 candidates trained under this scheme cleared the UPSC examination this year, underscoring its effectiveness.

Aspiration for Greater Representation

The Chief Minister stressed that Tamil Nadu must have a stronger presence in India’s civil services. He expressed his vision of seeing more youngsters from the state rise to become district collectors, departmental secretaries, and senior administrators across the country.

He emphasized that civil servants play a vital role in ensuring effective governance, implementing welfare schemes, and serving marginalized communities. Their contribution, he said, is essential for both state and national development.

Civil Servants as Global Representatives

Stalin also pointed out that civil servants are not limited to domestic governance. Many officers go on to serve as diplomats and ambassadors, representing India on the global stage. He said such roles highlight the wide scope of civil services and their importance in shaping India’s international partnerships and diplomatic engagement.

Advice to Successful Candidates

Addressing the newly selected officers, Stalin urged them to uphold humanity, humility, and a service-oriented mindset in their careers. He reminded them that civil servants have the opportunity to serve society for over three decades, allowing them to make a lasting impact on people’s lives.

In contrast, he noted, politicians face elections every five years, making the role of civil servants particularly crucial in ensuring continuity and stability in governance.

Personal Message: Stay Connected with Family

Sharing a personal piece of advice, Stalin encouraged the achievers to remain connected with their families despite the demands of their careers.

“You should care about your home and parents. Speak to them at least for five minutes every day to enquire about their health. This concern will help your career grow. Your dream has been fulfilled. Now let you begin fulfilling the dreams of the people,” he said.

Senior Leaders in Attendance

The felicitation event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, ministers P.K. Sekarbabu and Kayalvizhi Selvaraj, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, and other senior officials. The ceremony celebrated the achievements of the successful candidates while reinforcing the state government’s commitment to nurturing future civil servants.
