IAS officer Darpan Jain and Arti Kanwar Appointed to Key Roles in Textiles and Commerce
In a recent set of administrative appointments, the Government of India has placed two senior IAS officers in crucial positions within the Ministry of Textiles and the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, reinforcing its focus on industrial growth, trade, and sectoral development.
Appointment of Ms. Arti Kanwar
Ms. Arti Kanwar, IAS (Gujarat cadre, 2001), presently serving in the cadre, has been appointed as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Textiles. She succeeds Shri Rohit Kansal, IAS (AGMUT cadre, 1995), who has taken charge as Secretary, Department of Rural Development, Ministry of Rural Development.
The Ministry of Textiles is a key driver of India’s industrial and export economy, overseeing policies related to cotton, jute, silk, wool, handlooms, and technical textiles. As Additional Secretary, Kanwar will be responsible for advancing initiatives that strengthen India’s textile sector, enhance global competitiveness, and support employment generation. Appointment of Shri Darpan Jain
Shri Darpan Jain, IAS (Karnataka cadre, 2001), who has been serving as Joint Secretary in the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, has now been elevated to the position of Additional Secretary in the same department.
The Department of Commerce plays a pivotal role in shaping India’s trade policy, negotiating international agreements, and promoting exports. Jain’s elevation reflects recognition of his contributions and ensures continuity in leadership within the department.
