Tripura Gets Six New IAS Officers Under 2025 Select List, Strengthening State Administration
In a major boost to Tripura’s administrative framework, six officers from the Tripura Civil Service (TCS) have been promoted to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) under the Select List of 2025. The appointments were formally notified by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.
The induction of the officers into the IAS is expected to further strengthen governance and administrative efficiency in the northeastern state by bringing experienced state civil service officers into the country’s premier administrative cadre.
According to the official notification issued from New Delhi on May 25, the following six officers have been promoted to the IAS against vacancies allocated to the Tripura cadre:
Sarmistha Datta
Bimbisar Bhattacharya
Dr. Samit Roy Chowdhury
Akinchan Sarkar
Sumit Lodh
Rajesh Kumar Das
The officers have been inducted into the IAS under the promotion quota and will remain on probation until further orders in accordance with the applicable service rules and regulations.
Officials stated that the appointments were made under the provisions of the Indian Administrative Service Appointment by Promotion Regulations 1955 in consultation with the Tripura government and relevant authorities.
The promotions are part of the Centre’s regular cadre management and administrative strengthening process aimed at ensuring adequate representation and leadership within state administrations.
However, the official notification also clarified that the appointments will remain subject to the outcome of ongoing legal proceedings linked to seniority and promotion-related disputes concerning the Tripura cadre.
According to the notification, one matter relating to seniority issues is currently pending before the Supreme Court of India, while another case connected to IAS promotions in the Tripura cadre is under consideration before the Central Administrative Tribunal.
Despite the pending litigation, the government has proceeded with the promotions under the existing legal and administrative framework.
Administrative experts believe the induction of experienced TCS officers into the IAS will provide a significant boost to governance delivery and policy implementation in Tripura. Officers promoted through the state civil service route often bring extensive field-level administrative experience, district governance expertise, and a deeper understanding of local issues.
The move is also expected to help strengthen administrative continuity and leadership capacity across important departments in the state government.
In recent years, Tripura has witnessed increasing focus on infrastructure development, digital governance, public service delivery, and welfare programme implementation. The addition of six new IAS officers is likely to support these governance priorities by enhancing administrative manpower at senior levels.
The promotions have also been welcomed within administrative circles as recognition of the long service and contribution of state civil service officers who have worked across various departments and districts over the years.
With these inductions, the Tripura cadre of the Indian Administrative Service is expected to receive greater administrative depth and operational strength in handling the state’s evolving governance and developmental challenges.
