Lucknow Police Reshuffles 5 IPS Officers; New ACPs Appointed for Traffic, Cantt, Ghazipur, Malihabad and Cyber Wings
The Lucknow Police Commissionerate has carried out a fresh administrative reshuffle, transferring five IPS officers serving as Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to key assignments across the city. The move is aimed at strengthening policing in critical divisions while improving traffic management, cyber security, emergency response and law-and-order administration in the state capital.
The transfer orders, issued on Saturday, form part of the Commissionerate’s continuing efforts to place experienced officers in strategic positions where their expertise can help improve operational efficiency and public service delivery. The reshuffle affects important policing units, including the Traffic Wing, Cantt Division, Ghazipur Circle, Malihabad Circle and the Cyber and UP-112 emergency response wings.
Officials said the newly posted officers have been directed to take charge of their respective assignments immediately so that policing operations continue without interruption.
Strategic Changes Across Key Police Wings
The latest transfers reflect the Lucknow Police Commissionerate’s focus on strengthening some of its busiest and most sensitive operational units. Traffic regulation, cybercrime prevention, emergency response and policing in rapidly growing urban areas have emerged as key priorities, prompting the administration to reposition officers with diverse field experience.
Each of the five IPS officers has been assigned a role that carries significant responsibility, especially as Lucknow continues to witness increasing traffic volumes, expanding urban infrastructure and a growing demand for technology-driven policing.
Mahesh Tyagi Takes Charge of Traffic Wing
Among the major changes, IPS officer Mahesh Tyagi has been posted as Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
Previously serving as ACP, Lucknow, Tyagi will now oversee one of the city’s most challenging assignments. The Traffic Wing plays a crucial role in managing vehicular movement, easing congestion, implementing road safety measures and ensuring smooth traffic flow across major intersections and busy commercial corridors.
With Lucknow’s rapidly expanding road network and increasing number of vehicles, the Traffic Wing remains central to maintaining orderly urban mobility and public convenience.
Atul Kumar Pandey Posted as ACP Ghazipur
IPS officer Atul Kumar Pandey has been transferred from his earlier assignment as ACP, Lucknow, and appointed as ACP, Ghazipur.
The Ghazipur Circle is regarded as an important policing zone due to its growing residential neighbourhoods, commercial establishments and expanding urban footprint. As ACP, Pandey will supervise law-and-order management, crime prevention, public safety and community policing initiatives within the jurisdiction.
His appointment is expected to strengthen policing in one of Lucknow’s rapidly developing areas.
Sujit Kumar Dubey Moves to Cantt
Another important transfer involves IPS officer Sujit Kumar Dubey.
Earlier posted as ACP, Malihabad, Dubey has now been appointed ACP, Cantt. The Cantonment area remains one of the city’s strategically significant police jurisdictions because of its military establishments, government institutions, residential colonies and high-security installations.
The role requires close coordination with civil authorities, defence establishments and local police units to ensure effective law enforcement and public safety.
Gyanendra Singh Shifted to Malihabad
IPS officer Gyanendra Singh has been transferred from the Cantt Division and posted as ACP, Malihabad.
Malihabad is well known not only for its world-famous mango orchards but also for its mix of rural and semi-urban policing challenges. The area requires effective supervision over law and order, crime prevention, agricultural communities and expanding residential pockets.
The posting is expected to bring experienced leadership to the subdivision while maintaining continuity in policing operations.
Prateek Dahiya to Lead Cyber and UP-112 Responsibilities
One of the most significant assignments in the reshuffle has been given to IPS officer Prateek Dahiya.
Previously serving as ACP, Lucknow, Dahiya has now been appointed ACP, Cyber/UP-112/Lines. His new role places him at the centre of technology-driven policing, an area that has become increasingly important with the steady rise in cyber-related offences and digital fraud.
Apart from supervising cybercrime-related policing, he will also oversee responsibilities linked to UP-112, Uttar Pradesh’s integrated emergency response system, which provides rapid police assistance to citizens around the clock.
The assignment also includes responsibilities connected with police lines, making it one of the more diverse operational roles within the Commissionerate.
Focus on Modern Policing
The reshuffle reflects the Lucknow Police Commissionerate’s broader strategy of strengthening modern policing by placing capable officers in departments that directly impact public safety and service delivery.
Traffic management remains a major priority as the city experiences continuous growth in population, commercial activity and vehicle ownership. Efficient traffic regulation not only improves mobility but also contributes to road safety and emergency response efficiency.
At the same time, cybercrime has emerged as one of the fastest-growing challenges for law enforcement agencies. Financial fraud, online scams, identity theft and digital offences require specialised policing backed by technological expertise and quick response mechanisms.
The UP-112 emergency response system has also become a vital component of policing in Uttar Pradesh, providing immediate assistance during emergencies. Strengthening leadership in this wing is expected to improve response times and enhance coordination among various police units.
Improving Law and Order Across the City
The transfers are also intended to reinforce policing in important field divisions such as Cantt, Ghazipur and Malihabad, where officers are responsible for maintaining law and order, preventing crime, supervising investigations and engaging with local communities.
By rotating officers across different assignments, the Commissionerate aims to bring fresh perspectives to policing while ensuring that administrative experience is effectively utilised across multiple jurisdictions.
Officials believe such periodic transfers help improve coordination, encourage professional development among officers and strengthen institutional efficiency.
Officers Directed to Assume Charge Immediately
According to the transfer orders, all five IPS officers have been instructed to take charge of their new postings without delay.
The latest reshuffle underlines the Lucknow Police Commissionerate’s continued emphasis on responsive governance, efficient policing and effective deployment of leadership across specialised and field units.
With experienced officers now heading the Traffic Wing, Cyber and UP-112 units, along with key policing circles such as Cantt, Ghazipur and Malihabad, the Commissionerate expects the changes to further strengthen public safety, improve operational coordination and enhance the overall quality of policing across Uttar Pradesh’s capital city.
