Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Government has carried out another round of police reshuffle, transferring five Indian Police Service (IPS) officers and assigning them to new responsibilities across the state. The transfers, which take immediate effect, include changes in senior leadership within the Home Guards, district police administration, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing, and the Director General of Police (DGP) headquarters.
One of the most significant features of the latest reshuffle is the appointment of M Vijayalakshmi as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Home Guards in Chennai. The government has also revived the cadre post of Deputy Inspector General of Police, Armed Police, Chennai, signalling an administrative restructuring within the state’s police establishment.

M Vijayalakshmi Appointed DIG, Home Guards

She has been transferred from her existing post as Deputy Inspector General of Police, Armed Police, Tiruchy, and posted as Deputy Inspector General of Police, Home Guards, Chennai.
According to the government order, the appointment has been made by downgrading the vacant post of Additional Director General of Police and Director of Civil Defence-cum-Additional Commandant General, Home Guards. As part of the same administrative exercise, the state government has revived the cadre post of Deputy Inspector General of Police, Armed Police, Chennai, adding another important leadership position within the Armed Police structure.
The move is expected to strengthen the functioning of the Home Guards organization, which plays an important supporting role in disaster response, law and order management, public safety and emergency assistance across Tamil Nadu.
Government Revives DIG, Armed Police Chennai Post
One of the noteworthy administrative decisions accompanying the reshuffle is the revival of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Armed Police, Chennai cadre post.
The revival of the position reflects the government’s intention to reinforce the command structure of the Armed Police wing, which is responsible for providing reserve police forces during elections, major public events, security operations and law-and-order situations.

R Shiva Prasad, who had been serving as Superintendent of Police, Sivagangai, has now been transferred and appointed Superintendent of Police, Thoothukudi.
In a corresponding transfer, Abhishek Gupta, who was heading the Thoothukudi district police, has been posted as the new Superintendent of Police, Sivagangai.

Another significant posting announced by the government involves D Shanmuga Priya.She has been transferred from her current assignment as Superintendent of Police, Central Zone, Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID), Chennai, and appointed Superintendent of Police, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Western Range, Chennai.
The appointment has been made against an existing vacancy. The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Directorate is one of Tamil Nadu’s key investigative agencies, responsible for probing corruption cases involving public servants and ensuring accountability in government institutions. The posting places D Shanmuga Priya in an important position within the state’s anti-corruption framework.
P R Meera Shifted to DGP Headquarters
The reshuffle also includes the transfer of P R Meera, who has been serving as Assistant Superintendent of Police, Rameswaram Sub-Division in Ramanathapuram district.
She has now been posted as Assistant Superintendent of Police, Office Automation and Computerisation, at the office of the Director General of Police and Head of Police Force, Chennai.
The new assignment is expected to involve administrative modernization, digital governance and technological initiatives aimed at strengthening police information systems and improving operational efficiency within the state police headquarters.
