MTNL Appoints DoT Joint Secretary K. Balaji as Government Nominee Director; Know His Career and New Board Roles
Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has strengthened its Board with the appointment of K. Balaji, Joint Secretary (Administration) in the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), as a Government Nominee Director. Balaji joined the Board with effect from July 8, 2026, bringing with him a wide range of experience spanning public administration, finance, telecommunications, disaster management and government policy.
The appointment was formally disclosed by MTNL through regulatory filings submitted to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE). The company made the disclosure in accordance with the requirements of the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (LODR) Regulations, 2015.
Who Is K. Balaji?
K. Balaji is a 2010-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre. His career, however, began with a selection to the Indian Police Service in 2009, before he subsequently entered the IAS and took up a range of administrative responsibilities.
He currently serves as Joint Secretary (Administration) in the Department of Telecommunications under the Ministry of Communications. Balaji took charge of this position on April 15, 2026, and his new role on the MTNL Board adds another important responsibility to his current assignment.
His professional journey has taken him through district administration, power sector management, central government policy work and financial administration.
