ACC Approves Appointment of Three IPS Officers as Joint Directors in CBI
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of three senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers as Joint Directors in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The appointments involve officers from the 2008 batch of different state cadres and will fill key positions in the agency’s senior leadership structure.
The decision was taken on the basis of a proposal submitted by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), with the ACC approving the appointments through an order issued on August 10, 2026.
The three officers appointed as Joint Directors in the CBI are Akhilesh Kumar Singh, IPS (MH:2008), Satya Veer Singh, IPS (BH:2008) and Anish Gupta, IPS (JH:2008). All three officers are currently serving as Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) in the CBI.
Akhilesh Kumar Singh Appointed Joint Director
The ACC has approved the appointment of Akhilesh Kumar Singh, IPS (MH:2008), as Joint Director in the CBI. Singh is currently serving as a DIG in the CBI.
He will take over from Sudha Singh, IPS (OD:2006), who has been serving as Joint Director in the agency. Singh’s appointment will become effective from the date he assumes charge of the post. His tenure as Joint Director has been approved up to July 22, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The appointment will elevate Singh to one of the important supervisory positions within the country’s premier central investigative agency. As Joint Director, he will be expected to oversee investigations and administrative responsibilities falling under the jurisdiction of his assigned division.
Satya Veer Singh Named Joint Director
The second appointment approved by the ACC is that of Satya Veer Singh, IPS (BH:2008), who is also serving as a DIG in the CBI. Singh has been appointed as Joint Director in the CBI in place of Ashwin Shenvi, IPS (HY:2006), who has been serving as Joint Director in the agency.
His appointment will take effect from the date of assumption of charge on or after September 7, 2026. His tenure in the post has been approved up to March 5, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The appointment will bring another experienced 2008-batch IPS officer into the CBI’s Joint Director-level leadership structure.
Anish Gupta Appointed Joint Director
The third appointment is that of Anish Gupta, IPS (JH:2008), who is also presently serving as DIG in the CBI. Gupta has been appointed as Joint Director in the agency in place of Ramnish Geer, Joint Director, CBI, following Geer’s superannuation.
Gupta will assume charge of the post on or after October 1, 2026. His tenure as Joint Director has been approved up to February 29, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. His appointment will ensure continuity in the leadership of the concerned CBI division following the retirement of the incumbent officer.
Three Senior-Level Changes in CBI
The latest ACC decision results in three changes at the Joint Director level in the CBI. All three officers are from the 2008 batch of the IPS and have been serving in the agency as DIGs.
Joint Directors occupy an important position in the CBI’s organisational hierarchy. They supervise major investigative and administrative responsibilities and play a key role in coordinating cases, monitoring investigations and ensuring that matters under their respective jurisdictions are handled effectively.
The appointments also reflect the continued movement of senior IPS officers into specialised central investigative assignments. The CBI draws officers from different state cadres and central services to undertake investigations involving corruption, economic offences, serious crimes and cases of wider national significance.
The latest order was issued by the Secretariat of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Personnel and Training, on August 10, 2026.
The order was based on a DoPT proposal and referred to a note from the AV Division dated July 23, 2026. Copies of the order have been forwarded to the concerned government offices, the officers involved and other designated authorities.
