Tamil Nadu IPS Reshuffle: Cyber Crime, EOW, ATS and CID See Major Leadership Changes
Tamil Nadu has reshuffled 10 IPS officers, appointing B Bala Naga Devi as DGP, Crime Branch CID, while key postings have been made in Cyber Crime, EOW, ATS, Special Branch CID and Greater Chennai Police.
The Tamil Nadu government has carried out a significant police reshuffle, transferring 10 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers and assigning them fresh responsibilities across several specialised wings of the state police.
The latest administrative exercise focuses on strengthening leadership in critical policing units, including the Crime Branch-CID (CB-CID), Cyber Crime Wing, Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Special Branch CID, Coastal Security Group, and Greater Chennai Police.
Among the most notable appointments, 1995-batch IPS officer B Bala Naga Devi has been posted as Director General of Police (DGP), Crime Branch-CID, while 1997-batch officer Abhin Dinesh Modak has been entrusted with heading the state’s Cyber Crime Wing as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP).
The reshuffle also places experienced officers in key investigative and intelligence positions as Tamil Nadu continues to strengthen its specialised policing framework.
B Bala Naga Devi to Lead Crime Branch-CID
The most prominent change in the latest reshuffle is the appointment of B Bala Naga Devi, a 1995-batch IPS officer, as DGP, Crime Branch-CID, Chennai.
The Crime Branch-CID is one of Tamil Nadu Police’s most important investigative wings, entrusted with handling complex and sensitive cases that often extend beyond the jurisdiction of district police units. The agency investigates specialised crimes, major criminal conspiracies and cases requiring advanced investigative expertise.
With her appointment, Bala Naga Devi now takes charge of one of the state’s most crucial investigation units.
Abhin Dinesh Modak Gets Cyber Crime Wing
Another key appointment places Abhin Dinesh Modak, a 1997-batch IPS officer, as ADGP, Cyber Crime Wing, Chennai.
The Cyber Crime Wing has emerged as one of the fastest-growing policing divisions as digital fraud, online financial crimes, cyber attacks and technology-enabled offences continue to rise across the country.
The appointment gives Modak responsibility for overseeing investigations involving cybercrime while strengthening the state’s digital policing capabilities.
Vidya Jayant Kulkarni Heads Economic Offences Wing
The government has also appointed Vidya Jayant Kulkarni, a 1998-batch IPS officer, as ADGP, Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Chennai.
The Economic Offences Wing specialises in investigating financial crimes involving fraud, economic offences, financial irregularities and other cases with significant monetary implications.
Her appointment places experienced leadership at the helm of one of the state’s specialised financial investigation units.
CID and Intelligence Wings Get New Leadership
Several other officers have been assigned important responsibilities across Tamil Nadu’s intelligence and investigative formations.
M Ramamurthy has been posted as Superintendent of Police, Q Branch CID, a specialised unit dealing with sensitive security-related matters.
B K Arvind has been appointed SP-I, Special Branch CID, another key intelligence-related assignment within the state police structure.
These postings strengthen the leadership of Tamil Nadu’s intelligence network, which plays a crucial role in preventive policing and internal security.
Arpita Rajput Moves to Greater Chennai Police
The reshuffle also includes an important field-level appointment for Arpita Rajput, who has been posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Anna Nagar, under Greater Chennai Police.

I Eswaran has been appointed SP, Tamil Nadu Commando Force, a specialised force responsible for handling high-risk operations requiring advanced tactical capabilities.
Meanwhile, S R Senthil Kumar has been posted as SP, Coastal Security Group, Nagapattinam.
Given Tamil Nadu’s extensive coastline, the Coastal Security Group plays a vital role in maritime surveillance, coastal monitoring and strengthening security along vulnerable coastal stretches.
The posting becomes particularly significant for Nagapattinam, a district with strategic coastal importance.
ATS Gets New Superintendent
Another important appointment places V Saravana Kumar as SP, Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Chennai.
The ATS handles specialised counter-terrorism responsibilities, intelligence coordination and investigations linked to national security concerns.
His posting reinforces leadership within one of Tamil Nadu’s specialised security units responsible for tackling terrorism-related threats.
Tirunelveli City Headquarters Gets New DCP

D Ramesh Babu has been appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police, Headquarters, Tirunelveli City, strengthening the senior police administration in one of southern Tamil Nadu’s important urban centres.
