NIA Gets 2 IRS Officers as SPs on Four-Year Deputation: Who Are Radhe Krishna and Mayank Sharma?
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has brought in two officers from the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Taxes) for specialised assignments, with 2016-batch IRS officers Radhe Krishna and Mayank Sharma appointed as Superintendents of Police on deputation for a period of four years.
Both officers belong to the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance and have served in different capacities within the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). Their move to the NIA marks a shift from their regular responsibilities in customs and indirect tax administration to a central investigative environment dealing with cases falling within the agency’s statutory mandate.
The deputation also brings officers with experience in taxation, customs administration and enforcement into an organisation where investigations can involve complex financial transactions, regulatory violations and economic activity connected with wider criminal networks. While both officers will serve as SPs in the NIA during the deputation, their parent service remains the Indian Revenue Service, Customs and Indirect Taxes.
Who Is Radhe Krishna, IRS?
Radhe Krishna is a 2016-batch Indian Revenue Service officer belonging to the Customs and Indirect Taxes cadre. Before his move to the NIA, he served in various capacities under the CBIC, gaining experience in indirect tax administration and field-level enforcement.
His earlier assignments included serving as Deputy Commissioner and subsequently moving up to the position of Joint Commissioner. He was posted at Haldia under the Kolkata GST and Central Excise Zone, where his responsibilities were connected with the functioning of the indirect tax administration and enforcement machinery.
His experience in the CBIC system has given him exposure to tax administration, customs-related matters and enforcement work. The move to the NIA now places that experience in a substantially different institutional setting, where investigations can extend beyond conventional tax and customs issues.
The transition is notable because officers working in revenue services can encounter cases involving financial transactions, commercial entities, movement of goods and regulatory compliance. Such experience can be relevant in investigations where understanding financial or economic activity forms one component of a larger case.
Who Is Mayank Sharma, IRS?
Mayank Sharma is also a 2016-batch IRS officer of the Customs and Indirect Taxes cadre. Like Radhe Krishna, he has spent his professional career in the revenue administration system and has held positions within the CBIC before moving to the NIA.
One of his earlier assignments was as Deputy Commissioner at Palasamudram under the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN) zone. His work within the CBIC framework provided him with experience in revenue administration and the enforcement-related aspects of indirect taxation.
His appointment as an SP in the NIA represents a move into federal investigation and enforcement. During his four-year deputation, he will work within the NIA’s organisational structure while continuing to remain an officer of the Indian Revenue Service.
Their four-year assignments will place their existing experience in customs, indirect taxation and revenue enforcement alongside the investigative capabilities of the NIA. The postings thus mark a significant change in the nature of their professional responsibilities while retaining the specialised background they have developed during their careers in the CBIC system.
