Delhi Police: 12 Selection Grade DANIPS Officers Get Additional DCP Duty Charge With Immediate Effect

The Delhi Lieutenant Governor has assigned the current duty charge of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Additional DCP) to 12 Selection Grade officers of the Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Delhi Police (DANIPS) serving in the Delhi Police. The orders have been issued with immediate effect, bringing a fresh set of administrative responsibilities to these officers as part of the Delhi Police’s supervisory structure.

Among the officers named in the order is Vivek Bhagat, a 2018-batch DANIPS officer who is currently serving as Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Connaught Place, New Delhi District. With the assignment of the additional duty charge, Bhagat will take on responsibilities associated with the Additional DCP level while continuing to operate within the broader framework of the Delhi Police’s existing administrative and operational arrangements.

12 Selection Grade DANIPS Officers Assigned Additional Charge

The decision covers a total of 12 Selection Grade DANIPS officers who are already posted in different capacities in the Delhi Police. The assignment of current duty charge is an important administrative arrangement because officers entrusted with such responsibilities may have to oversee a wider range of policing and administrative functions in addition to their existing assignments.

The move comes as part of the routine administrative mechanism through which senior and experienced officers are entrusted with additional responsibilities whenever the requirement arises. Such arrangements allow the police administration to maintain continuity in supervisory functions and ensure that important responsibilities at the senior field level continue to be handled without disruption.

For the officers concerned, the additional charge also places greater emphasis on their administrative experience, decision-making responsibilities and ability to coordinate policing activities at a broader level. Their existing field experience is expected to remain relevant as they take on the additional duties attached to the new charge.

Vivek Bhagat Among Officers Given Additional DCP Charge

Vivek Bhagat is one of the prominent names in the latest administrative arrangement. A 2018-batch DANIPS officer, Bhagat is currently posted as SDPO, Connaught Place, New Delhi District, one of the most prominent and operationally significant areas of the national capital.

Connaught Place and its surrounding areas remain important from a policing and public-safety perspective because of the area’s commercial activity, high pedestrian movement, offices, restaurants, public spaces and regular flow of visitors. An officer serving in the area therefore deals with a broad range of law-and-order and policing requirements while coordinating with other units of the Delhi Police.

Bhagat’s current posting as SDPO has given him field-level responsibilities within the New Delhi District. With the latest order, he has now also been assigned the current duty charge of Additional DCP, adding another layer of responsibility to his existing professional role.

The additional charge reflects the administrative trust placed in Selection Grade officers who have gained experience through different assignments in the police organisation. While the exact scope of duties can depend on the administrative requirements of the department, an Additional DCP-level assignment generally involves greater supervisory and coordination responsibilities.

What the Additional DCP Duty Charge Means

The post of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police occupies an important position in the Delhi Police’s organisational hierarchy. Officers working at this level can be involved in supervising policing operations, maintaining law and order, coordinating with subordinate units and dealing with administrative matters within their assigned jurisdiction or department.

The current duty charge arrangement does not necessarily mean that every officer has been permanently transferred or appointed against a regular Additional DCP post. Rather, such orders are administrative mechanisms through which an officer is entrusted with the responsibilities of a particular senior position for the time being.

For the Delhi Police, these arrangements can be particularly important when there are vacancies, administrative requirements, restructuring or the need to redistribute responsibilities among experienced officers. Assigning additional charge helps the department ensure that supervisory positions remain functional while allowing the organisation to respond to changing operational needs.

Selection Grade Officers Take on Greater Responsibilities

The officers covered by the latest order belong to the Selection Grade of DANIPS. Officers reaching this stage generally have accumulated substantial experience across different policing and administrative assignments, giving them exposure to field operations as well as organisational responsibilities.

The assignment of additional DCP duties to these officers therefore represents an expansion of their current responsibilities. It also places greater demands on their ability to manage personnel, coordinate with senior officials and respond to operational requirements while continuing to discharge the responsibilities associated with their existing postings.

For officers working in Delhi, such assignments can involve dealing with a wide variety of challenges. The capital has a complex policing environment, combining densely populated residential areas, major commercial centres, government institutions, diplomatic establishments, transport hubs and areas that attract large numbers of visitors.

Focus on Administrative Continuity

The latest order is also significant from the perspective of administrative continuity within the Delhi Police. Senior policing positions require uninterrupted supervision, particularly in a city where law-and-order requirements can change rapidly and where multiple police units often need to coordinate their efforts.

By assigning current duty charge to experienced Selection Grade DANIPS officers, the administration can ensure that the responsibilities attached to the Additional DCP level continue to be handled. It also provides the department with flexibility in managing its senior supervisory structure without waiting for every responsibility to be filled through a separate permanent posting order.

For the officers themselves, additional charge can offer an opportunity to demonstrate their administrative and operational capabilities on a wider platform. Their performance in these assignments can involve managing more complex responsibilities, coordinating with multiple levels of the police hierarchy and addressing issues that extend beyond the immediate scope of their regular postings.

Vivek Bhagat’s Role in the Latest Arrangement

Vivek Bhagat’s inclusion in the order is particularly noteworthy because of his existing assignment in Connaught Place. As SDPO of Connaught Place in New Delhi District, he is already associated with policing responsibilities in one of the capital’s best-known commercial and public areas.

His additional responsibility as Additional DCP will now require him to handle duties attached to a higher supervisory level while remaining part of the Delhi Police’s existing administrative framework. The combination of field experience and broader supervisory responsibility is an important aspect of such current duty charge arrangements.

The order, effective immediately, marks another administrative development in the Delhi Police’s senior officer structure. It also highlights the continuing use of experienced DANIPS officers for key supervisory responsibilities within the capital’s policing system.

Immediate Effect of the Order

The assignment of the additional duty charge has been made with immediate effect, meaning the officers concerned are expected to assume the responsibilities associated with the order without waiting for a later effective date. This allows the police administration to address its current organisational requirements promptly.

The move involving 12 Selection Grade DANIPS officers is therefore significant not simply as a routine reshuffle, but as an administrative step aimed at strengthening the availability of senior-level supervisory officers within the Delhi Police. The officers will bring their existing field and departmental experience to the additional responsibilities assigned to them.

With Vivek Bhagat among those entrusted with the Additional DCP duty charge, attention will now remain on how the officers take forward their expanded responsibilities. The latest arrangement is another example of how the Delhi Police manages its senior supervisory structure through the allocation of additional duties to experienced officers when administrative requirements arise.
