Reshuffle Comes Amid Probe into Alleged Irregular Salary Withdrawals
The administrative changes come as the Bihar Education Department is examining alleged irregularities in salary payments to teachers and other employees. A recent Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report reportedly highlighted instances of irregular salary withdrawals involving personnel in the department. Following this, the state government initiated an investigation into the matter.
A review conducted after CK Anil took charge as Additional Chief Secretary reportedly brought to light unauthorised withdrawals amounting to ₹34.11 crore. The total amount cited was ₹34,11,56,604, of which approximately ₹29 crore has reportedly been recovered.
The investigation is also examining the possible involvement of officials in the alleged irregularities. However, the available report does not identify any officials as having been formally held responsible or specify disciplinary or legal action against them.
The latest reshuffle is a significant administrative exercise within the Education Department, covering both district education leadership and programme-level assignments. It comes at a time when the department is also under pressure to strengthen financial oversight, improve administrative accountability and address concerns relating to the management of public funds.
