ACC Extends Central Deputation of Sheetal Verma, IAS, as Director of Census Operations and Director of Citizen Registration in Uttar Pradesh Till August 2026
The Government of India has approved a major administrative decision concerning senior IAS officer Ms. Sheetal Verma (Uttar Pradesh Cadre: 2007). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has formally cleared a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Home Affairs seeking continuation of her central deputation tenure.
Ms. Verma is presently serving as Director of Census Operations (DCO) and Director of Citizen Registration (DCR) in Uttar Pradesh under the Ministry of Home Affairs. With the ACC’s approval, her deputation period has now been extended to a total tenure of five years, making her continuation in office valid up to 05 August 2026 or until further government orders are issued, whichever takes effect earlier.
As part of this extension, the Government has also decided to continue the upgradation of the post currently held by Ms. Verma to the level of Joint Secretary. This administrative elevation reflects the strategic importance of her role in overseeing national population data, citizen registration mechanisms, and demographic policy implementation.
The extension has been granted to ensure sustained leadership, operational stability, and uninterrupted supervision of census and citizen registration activities in Uttar Pradesh—one of the most populous and administratively significant states in the country.
