New science-based regimen with QR code tutorials and health coaches aims to reduce injuries, improve agility, and modernize the physical readiness of the Uttar Pradesh Police force.
From Outdated Drills to Modern Fitness Standards
The Uttar Pradesh Police Training Directorate, led by ADG Navneet Sikera, has launched the Smart PT Program-2025, marking a complete overhaul of the physical training system that has remained unchanged since the 1970s. The initiative replaces the traditional, drill-oriented regimen with a modern, muscle-focused fitness program designed to improve strength, agility, and resilience.
Legacy Training Linked to Injuries and Inefficiency
For decades, new recruits were subjected to strenuous routines such as parades with rifles weighing more than five kilograms. While these drills were intended to instill discipline and endurance, they often left officers with lingering injuries—most commonly knee and back pain—that compromised their performance even years into service.
Science-Based Fitness Model with Injury Prevention at Its Core
ADG Sikera emphasized that the outdated methods not only caused preventable injuries but also limited the operational efficiency of the force. The Smart PT Program-2025 introduces a scientifically crafted, muscle-based training model that prioritizes injury prevention, functional fitness, and agility—qualities essential for modern policing.
Key Components of Smart PT Program-2025
The program integrates a holistic fitness framework, including:
Structured warm-up and stretching routines before every session.
Balanced muscle training covering upper, middle, and lower body.
Cool-down exercises to promote recovery and reduce fatigue.
Running drills from 100 meters to 10 kilometers, with emphasis on proper technique and pacing.
Nutritional guidance, highlighting protein-rich diets and healthy eating habits.
QR code-enabled video tutorials to ensure correct execution of exercises.
Supervision by 32 certified health coaches specializing in injury prevention and fitness management.
Raising Operational Readiness Through Fitness Modernization
The Smart PT Program-2025 replaces the outdated, parade-centric drill system with a performance-oriented approach designed to equip officers with the strength and agility of commandos. This shift aims to reduce training-related injuries while significantly enhancing operational readiness.
Holistic Health and Performance Optimization
Beyond physical exercise, the program emphasizes hydration, balanced nutrition, and scientifically guided training practices to promote long-term wellness and resilience among officers.
Setting a New Standard in Police Training Nationwide
With the launch of Smart PT Program-2025, Uttar Pradesh Police are establishing a new benchmark in police training across India—ensuring officers are not only fit for duty but also protected against preventable injuries, creating a stronger, healthier, and more effective force.
