Senior IAS officer Ranvir Prasad, a 2000-batch officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has taken charge as Principal Secretary, Energy and Additional Energy Sources in the Uttar Pradesh government. The new assignment also places him at the helm of several crucial state power-sector organisations, bringing together a number of major electricity-related responsibilities under his leadership.
Prasad has been appointed Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Limited (UPPTCL), Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) and the Uttar Pradesh State Load Despatch Centre (UPSLDC). He assumed charge at Shakti Bhawan after being relieved of his earlier responsibilities in the Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs departments.

Who Is IAS Ranvir Prasad?
Ranvir Prasad is a direct-recruit IAS officer from the 2000 batch of the Uttar Pradesh cadre. He entered the civil services through the UPSC Civil Services Examination and has since handled a wide range of assignments at both the field and senior departmental levels.
One notable aspect of his profile is his academic background. Prasad holds a B.Tech degree in Electrical Engineering, with records describing the qualification as being in first division. Early IAS Career in Tamil Nadu

During his Tamil Nadu tenure, he served as Sub-Collector in Dindigul and later worked as Additional Collector in Nagapattinam. He also served as District Collector of Tiruvallur, giving him direct experience in managing district-level administration.

Six Districts as District Magistrate in Uttar Pradesh
After moving into the Uttar Pradesh administrative setup, Prasad served as District Magistrate in six districts. These field assignments became an important part of his career before his progression into senior Secretariat and departmental responsibilities.
His documented district postings include Lalitpur, Unnao, Sant Ravidas Nagar (Bhadohi), Sant Kabir Nagar, Mainpuri and Azamgarh.
Working as District Magistrate in different parts of Uttar Pradesh gave Prasad experience of administering districts with varying geographical, economic and developmental conditions.
